- Abortion is the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy.
- “In many areas of our country abortions actually outnumber live births.” (Pastor Greg Wilson) We are taking away more lives of children than producing.
- Over one million abortions happen every year in the United States. This means about one out of every four pregnancies are aborted.
Pro-life:
- In America, abortion is legal. Even though abortion is legal, not everyone believes it is right. These people are known as pro-life; they believe that the killing of an unborn child is unjustified and that it is the killing of an innocent life.
- They believe that every human being has the right to live from the time they were conceived until their last day. Being pro-life means you do not believe anyone other than that person has the choice with their life, and that there is a human being growing inside of women from the time of conception. Being pro-life doesn’t just mean you are against abortion, it means we need to fight for our beliefs.
- It is understandable that some people believe a woman should have the choice to abort a baby that is the product of rape, incest, or if it were to cost the mother her life, but that is not fair to the innocent child. Pastor Greg Wilson stated, “98% of abortions are for reasons other than rape, incest, or the mother’s life.” It is then hard for someone who is pro-choice to justify abortion with situations that only occur two percent in total of all abortions.
Pro-choice:
- On the other side of the argument is the pro-choice party. They believe it is the choice of the woman whether to keep the baby or not because it is the woman’s body.
- Pro-choice people also say that the killing of a person is wrong. Well, scientifically the life growing inside of the womb is an unborn child or human being; it is not yet considered a person. The pro-choice party believes in the right to choose and that there are circumstances where abortion is the best option for the mother.
Alternative to abortion:
- Adoption
- According to Pastor Greg Wilson, “2 million American couples are waiting to adopt babies.” This means that there are plenty of people who are willing to adopt your baby and give it a good and happy life.
- Pastor Greg Wilson also states that, “1,500,000 to 2,000,000 babies are aborted annually.”
- Some people may argue that it is better to abort the baby instead of giving birth to it and putting it up for adoption because they either do not want to or cannot go through the pregnancy process for this child. But, if people look at the big picture, adoption will give both the adopted child and their parents a better life.
Solutions to stop abortion:
Abortion Classes-
One solution to this problem could be a mandatory class a woman must take before she is permitted to get an abortion. This would enforce that everyone must be educated on abortion, all the abortion terms, and the procedures. This class would include graphic pictures and descriptions of everything going on in the abortion.
Abortion Assemblies for high schools-
“One third of abortions are performed on teenagers without their parents’ knowledge or consent.” (Pastor Greg Wilson)
It is crucial to educate teenagers in high school since this is the age where a big portion of abortions happen. Schools need to set up assemblies with their students and have educated abortion speakers give a presentation over abortions. I believe if it is mandatory to educate teens over abortion and over the life saving alternatives to abortion, then fewer people would be turning to abortion to fix the situation they are in regarding the pregnancy.
